Someone in the earlier thread mentioned that the way I store everything together, it will be an issue when I upgrade os next time. Why is this so?
The assumption is that people wipe their complete disk (HDD, SSD, SD-card) when they upgrade the OS. That is the only thing that is supported by RPL. Well, they don't come to your house to swap the SD-card, you still need this forum if things go wrong and fix things yourself. That rpi-imager is by far not as capable as a normal Linux installer you can run from CD/DVD or USB-stick on a normal Linux computer.
My experience is that RPiOS had (and still has) so many hacks and tweaks compared to the base Debian that RPL take the easy route. IMO, wipe your own work, get some new stuff and then re-do everything to how it was is not upgrading. Maybe you get used to it if your company rolls out a new series of faster Windows laptops for employees. There is an IT department that does all for you and you don't have to pay for the work.

If you know how to upgrade a Linux system and not rely on all those hacks and tweaks (e.g. Desktop Environment experiments), you can apply standard Debian Linux distro upgrade principles.
