You can connect the data lines PUL-, DIR-, ENA- to GPIO pins and the PUL+, DIR+, ENA+ to RPi 3.3v.
The datasheet I found do not specify if it is possible to drive the data lines from 3.3V, there is only a remark on 5V or more. So it could be the 3.3V is not enough. But then do not simply use 5V, would destroy the GPIO. You need additional transistors then or a darlington array to safely convert voltages.

The connection of the 24V supply GND to RPi GND (shown in this tutorial) is not needed. And I would try to avoid this.
