Booting image to do modifications will leaving bits of your data everywhere. A few of the third party Pi distros do it this way and their OS images have things like the developer's WiFi password, logs and Github keys. Deleting the files won't completely eradicate it either. The OS image will need the "empty" space wiped as well.
If you're creating an image to distribute then do it properly with pi-gen or bls' sdm.
