Yeah I am aware of that. YMF825 has a frequency tolerance of ±100ppm which translates to 12.2880 ± 0.0012288 MHz which this method certainly violates. Changing the external clock frequency will actually change the pitch of music notes generated i.e. out of tune. Like shown in this video: (timestamp 9:28) https://youtu.be/RCegzukAWjg?si=GGOXetXu1ddX2_61&t=568Fractional dividers don't give you a clock at exactly the requested frequency - they give you a clock which switches between the two integer divisions above/below the frequency you want such that the average frequency is right but the instantaneous frequency isn't.
For all these problems I'm just gonna stick to using two seperate crystals. It's been a very informative discussion and thank you all in this thread for the help!
